Plains Rally 2022

Saturday 21st May saw us heading back to North Wales for the Plains Rally, this year based in Bala and using stages in the Aberhirnant and Clocaenog complexes, not stages we traditionally associate with this event!

The event was a round of the British Historic Rally Championship and the Welsh National Rally Championship, and the historic category was headed by a pair of RSD Fiat 131s in the hands of multiple BRC champion Matt Edwards and former BHRC champion Nick Elliott. Matt has been in incredible form this year so far, already winning the previous two rounds and was the favourite here on his home turf - and so it proved with a dominant performance to make it 3 out of 3.

The modern event was headed by Matt Hirst, in his ex-Callum Black Fiesta Rally2, and has also been in dominant form this season in the BTRDA and Welsh championships. Despite picking up a couple of punctures, Matt stormed to the overall win to make it three victories on the bounce. We were massively impressed with the amount of speed he carried through the hairpin we were shooting in Llangower, the commitment really had the feel of a WRC2 level driver!
