The first event of the 2022 season saw us making the long journey north to the famous Yorkshire forests for the Riponian Rally, the opening round of the British Historic Rally Championship. The first time we'd been in these woods since the 2012 Roger Albert Clark Rally.
After many hours studying the route DVD and on-board cameras from previous events, we settled on our locations in SS1 'Wass' and SS3/6 'Gale Rigg' which meant splitting into two teams of two in order to capture as much of the action as possible. The location we chose in Wass was a tricky right hander over a crest which we thought had potential for some action; and so it proved with several crews having big moments with one rally ending roll for one unlucky pair (which Luke caught on camera!). We'd heard before the event that Gale Rigg is the highest stage in England and there's also something of a clue in the name. The weather we experienced up there was pretty wild, ranging from glorious sunshine to hail to blizzards and just about everything else in between!
Check out the full image gallery on our Facebook page, and our YouTube channel for the Rally Report we've put together for our client Wales Motorsport Fabrications, which features the familiar voice of Mark James narrating. We're massively excited to be working with Mark for the rest of the BHRC season, he's the real 'voice of rallying' for us having grown up listening to his dulcet tones on the WRC highlights shows in the late 90s and early 00s. Check back here after the next BHRC event - which will be Rally North Wales on 26th March based in Dolgellau. We're looking forward to getting back into more familiar surroundings in Dyfi and Gartheiniog!
