Welsh Championship Media Day
A few weeks ago we had a call from Will Rogers, the organiser of the Pirelli Ravenol Welsh National Rally Championship, asking if we’d be interested in coming along to his championship promo day at Phil Price Rally School. With the promise of some passenger rides thrown in to the bargain, of course we accepted! We’re pretty familiar with Phil Price Rally School, which is now run by John Caine (more on him later!) following the recent passing of Phil after a battle with illness. Phil was very highly regarded in rallying circles having founded and run the school for many years, and will be sorely missed by all.
The event attracted a fantastic cross-section of entries from across the class structure, from an entry level Peugeot 206 to ultra modern R5s to top-spec BDA Escorts, a superb day was in store and we even got lucky with the weather, which managed to stay dry for most of the day despite the atrocious forecast of heavy rain all day. This meant we were able to get some fantastic drone footage, which always adds an extra dimension to videography.
After a busy morning shooting and a quick break for lunch, the afternoon was dedicated to passenger rides and what an experience it was! The other lads were lucky to get rides in R5 Fiestas, whereas I went out on the very final run of the day with John Caine in his ex-Richard Hill Group A Subaru Impreza. I’ve had passenger rides before, but nothing came close to this. John knows every inch of the place and the way he was throwing the car into the corners was astonishing! A truly memorable experience and one I’ll never forget - thanks John!
